I have been at a gathering of teachers and these are my observations
- Almost all of them look like they are so tired of the never ending work. Most of them look depressed too. And are somehow trying to cope up by joking or forcefully laughing.
- The ones in their 20s look like they are in their 30s. The ones in their 30s look like they are in their 40s or 50s.
- Some 80% of them are in a hurry and desperate to make some extra money. Very few are not worried much about money.
- All of them are comparing the work culture and salaries at different institutions.
- There are PhD holders who are working for very less salary.
- Most of them look like they are coming from a weak economic background. My friend noticed one teacher wearing a torn t shirt.
- Most of the teachers are women. Some of these women consider their salary like a pocket money. Their house is mainly run by their husbands’ salary.
- Some women are considering their salary as their main source of income and are not happy with the earning.
- The young teachers are frustrated already and thinking how to get a breakthrough in their finances. The youngsters are under an illusion that their PhD can fix their career. But they do not get the reality.
Conclusion: teaching profession in India isn’t exciting and isn’t rewarding.
