Storing medicines – tablets and syrup bottles effectively

We all store medicines at home. It is a good idea to keep a few essential medicines (paracetamol) and a few more based on our medical condition. The tablets are usually manufactured on plastic “sheets” and sealed using thin aluminium foils. The aluminium foil contains all the details of the medicine like – the brand name, chemical name, caution information, manufacturing date, expiry date and batch number. As we start using the tablets and tear the aluminum foil, the details start vanishing. It may be tough later to know what medicine it is and when it expires. I have a hack / solution for this.

Every time you get a new tablet, just keep it inside a small paper envelope. And write the basic details like:

  1. Name of the medicine
  2. For what purpose it is used (eg. Cough / cold / stomach issues)
  3. Manufactured date
  4. Expiry date

Always store tablets this way and keep them all in one single box. This helps you to keep a track of the medicines.

Syrups:

Syrups should be stored separately in another box which is longer in height in order to accommodate the syrup bottles that are longer. Also, do not use the cap of the syrup bottles to consume the syrup. When you put the cap back to the bottle, the leftover syrup flows down outside, wetting the label on the bottle and attracts ants. Most of the pharma companies provide an additional plastic cap which sometimes has measurements too. Use that for measuring and consuming your syrup. Once you are done consuming, rinse the plastic cap and keep it back. This way you can avoid ants flooding into your medicine bottles and keep your syrups neat.
