Affordable fruits

If you live in a posh locality, there are high chances that the price of fruits is very high these days. Some of the fruits that were badly neglected earlier and were only eaten by economically weaker sections, have now become costly, thanks to newspaper articles and youtube videos showing their importance. One such fruit is guava (Kannada: seebe hannu ಸೀಬೆ ಹಣ್ಣು ). Now guava is very costly. In this situation, it’s tough to find fruits that are affordable.

Banana

In my experience, the different varieties of banana are the most affordable and easy to purchase. You can get even 1-2 from the vendors if you ask them properly. Easy to carry also. I had written recently as to how banana is  the savior fruit. If you are buying Nanjanagudu rasabaale hannu, this would be the costliest variety of Banana.

Papaya

Papaya is available everywhere easily and damn cheap. Just ensure you pick the right one based on the taste you like – too ripe or less ripe or balanced. The only down side is that you need to peel the skin and cut it. Takes some time.

Musambi

I found musambi also to be quite affordable. Again, some may find it irritating to remove the peel the outer skin, then the inner skin and then eat it. Some may think drinking musambi juice is easier. However, health wise, eating fruits without converting them into juices gives you their raw nutrients, fibre and avoids extra sugar.

Other fruits

I have found green and black local grapes to be quite affordable. But a lot of pesticides go into growing grapes. So I’ve been avoiding them. Apples are really good for health, but costly. The cheaper ones aren’t that good. Buying apples once in a while may be a good idea. The pricing of the fruits also depends on the place and the market conditions. Keep exploring. There are fruits that haven’t come to the notice of the elite crowd. Choose them. One more way is to explore the fruits by going towards the rural areas once a month  or to the main market in your city once a week. The local fruits are usually cheaper. The ones that are not packaged heavily are cheaper and fresh. Also, choose the seasonal fruits available in the market. If you know any good fruits that are affordable, comment below.
