The Government has overarching control over the citizens. It has a huge government machinery to get its work done. The majority of responsibility is on the government. For some aspects, the government does “citizen awareness”. Citizen awareness is only for educating the citizens on certain matters. When it comes to implementation, it is government’s responsibility. The problem now is that, the government has smartly shifted its core responsibility on its citizens. Come let us examine how the government got here.
During Covid time (2020), the government started this trend of giving public service message about Covid every time you made a voice call. If you were in a Covid emergency and wanted to contact your near ones or a doctor, you had to first listen to their nonsense message for about 1 minute and then only your call got connected. I understand if this message was implemented for about 3-6 days until people got educated. This message continued for weeks and months during Covid.
On the other hand, the government didn’t do its duty of saving its citizens. It faltered on many of its duties. But for fans of the government, they felt that the government was doing a lot by putting the public service message on people’s phones.
Come 2025, Cyber frauds have increased a lot. We see that people are getting digital arrest video calls and they are falling for all this. Why is this happening? When the govt and a certain political party was peddling fake narratives, these same dumb and intentionally ignorant voters fell for their propaganda. The same people, no wonder will surely fall for cyber fraud. Because they won’t think before taking action. The government has the entire police machinery and gets all our private information easily. But they are unable to curb the cyber fraud. Isn’t this a paradox?
When you ask the government what they are doing to curb the cyber frauds, what is their answer? Instead of catching the thieves, what do they do? They put out public service messages asking us not to fall for cyber frauds. Even at this point, if citizens cannot realise how much they have been taken for granted, god save this country!
