Why do we hold good people to higher standards of scrutiny?

Do you people also feel that good people are held accountable to higher standards than average or bad people?

Let me narrate you a few incidents that happened with my family and relatives:

  1. One of my uncles said that “methi” seeds are bad for health and bad for diabetes patients. Then I asked him, if bakery items like puffs (made up of maida and dalda) are healthy. He didn’t answer. Because at his house, they get bakery items almost every day.
  2. One of my aunts told me that her son put on weight and became obese because of having dry fruits like dates, almonds and cashews. Apparently, her kid’s nursery school insisted that the parents send dry fruits instead of biscuits alongwith lunch, which is surely a healthier option! But my aunt felt that those 7-10 pieces of dry fruits every day were the cause for her son’s obesity. I asked her promptly, “so your son never had chocolates, mixture, bakery items and chicken fry almost every day?” … Aunt smiled and said slowly, “yes, he used to have bakery items almost every day. But still dry fruits might have caused his weight gain.”
  3. A friend once refused to have the home made paayasa (a type of sweet) which was made up of moong dal, homemade ghee, coconut and dry fruits. The very next week, I saw him having multiple slices of some sweets he got from some sweet shop. We are not aware what ingredients were put into it. Surely my friend feels that some random sweets made outside are healthier than home made sweets.
  4. I got a forwarded youtube video which said that – having banana on empty stomach is highly dangerous. I didn’t watch the entire video and just dismissed it. But the video had lakhs of views and thousands of comments. Now, who in their sane mind would have banana on an empty stomach? We wake up and have some water and then after some time, we may have banana or some fruit or some coffee. There are also videos that claim that having banana every night before sleep can cause high cholestrol. I don’t see any video that says having alcohol every day is bad for health.

It baffles me how all of these prejudices and fake claims are made only against healthy food items like fruits and vegetables. And not against the real unhealthy items.

That brings me to the crux of this topic: do humans hold good people to higher standards of scrutiny?

Let’s say, there’s a politician who is totally corrupt. People don’t even think about holding him accountable to anything he does. Why? Because they are afraid of him. And then there’s another politician who is honest and has been doing his work pretty well. Even with small accusations against him, people go all ballistic and almost delete him from the public space! People won’t even think if the accusations are true or if an inquiry has been conducted or not.

At work places, the ones who never do any work will not be questioned. But the ones who initiate something and even something small goes wrong, there will be negative comments on them.

At this moment, I can surely conclude that good people will be held accountable with higher standards. The scrutiny is more for good people.
